Evolution

At the time no one was really sure what an open broadband network was. And there were no already working concepts to borrow. So, we had to invent it from scratch.

It is all about three things
In order to succeed in launching a open broadband network, a MAN network, it all comes down to three main focus areas:
1. Building the brand with a strong and clear vision.
2. A well defined mission with clearly defined roles and business processes.
3. Work targeted with effective processes to connect the market
Sounds easy? Just writing this down on paper and talk a bit about it inhouse does not bring much of a success. It has to be put into action.
The Market Concept
It all started back in 1999. Mälarenergi, the community energy company, decided to start building an open fiber optic network in our city. At the time no one was really sure what an open broadband network was. And there were no already working concepts to borrow. So, we had to invent it from scratch.
– At the time, I was hired as a marketing consultant at Mälarenergy, and I was engaged to this new infra structure project, says Hans Eklundh, at eklundh.com
– Robert Kjellberg was assigned as CEO for the new broadband company, Mälarenergi Stadsnät, and we experienced in the coming months a very intense and awesome birth of the Market Concept for open broadband city networks. I was committed mostly to the packaging of the concept and the communication process, while Robert was focusing on strategic and busines model issues as well as forming the processes.
It was a groundbreaking success. Well known all over the world.
Well expericenced solutions
Since then we have participated in missions for open city networks and has been a sounding board for many metro networks throughout Sweden and Norway. Based on this experience, we have created and built on a tool box of valuable resources and tools for other municipal networks that wants to lift themselves to a more competitive level.
  • Workshops on strategy, vision, communication, sales, and marketing processes, connecting.
  • Kickstart Marketing Package, a menu of information, presentation and sales materials that we know that most of the metro network needs. Choose what you want and customize it to your profile.
  • The CityNet Web, the leading web solution that is tailor made for open city networks.
  • The NetCity Factory
From April 2010, we have gathered all these tools and resources in a national portal to services, citynets and market, called NetCity Factory. The purpose of the NetCity Factory is to significantly contribute to greater harmonization and standardization that makes urban networks more efficient and competitive through strong local brands and richer range of services. From 2011 the NetCity Factory has become an integrated service within the national Swedish Broadband Association, SSNf.
